The Ranch
|
It is ideal if the veterinarian in your area is experienced with alpacas or llamas. We have fostered a relationship between ourselves, Crater Animal Clinic and the veterinary staff at Oregon State University, 200 miles away. Generally, alpacas are very healthy and require little in the way of medical care. We as ranchers have become very proficient at basic health evaluation, vaccinating, toenail trimming and birthing. We also share our skills with local alpaca ranchers, exchanging services such as blood draws for progesterone levels (performed by one of our SOJAA members who is a nurse), teeth trimming, and assisting each other during shearing.
